The Genocide Intervention Network to show 'Lord of War' March 8

The Genocide Intervention Network will show 'Lord of War' March 8

The Genocide Intervention Network will host a showing of "Lord of War" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in Room 126, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts.

The movie follows a post-Soviet Union arms dealer, Yuri Orlov (Nicholas Cage), through some of the deadliest war zones while Orlov tries to evade a relentless Interpol agent (Ethan Hawke).

After the movie, a discussion will be led by network members.

This is the network's second event. Two law students spoke in February about their experience helping a refugee from Darfur, Sudan, apply for asylum in the United States. The refugee could face persecution if he is deported because the Sudanese government has labeled him a traitor, the law students said.

The St. Thomas chapter of the Genocide Intervention Network was created in fall 2005. The network focuses on education, advocacy and fund raising for African Union peacekeepers in Darfur.
