UST on 2009 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

The University of St. Thomas is among 621 schools named to the 2009 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, which recognizes colleges and universities for volunteerism, service-learning and civic engagement.

More than 700 colleges and universities were honored for their impact on issues from poverty and homelessness to environmental justice.

The Corporation for National and Community Service, which administers the annual Honor Roll, is a federal agency that engages Americans in service through its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Service America programs, and leads President Obama's national call-to-service initiative, United We Serve.

The Honor Roll also includes six colleges and universities that are recognized as Presidential Awardees and 115 named to the Honor Roll With Distinction. Honorees were chosen based on a series of selection factors, including scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service and the extend to which schools offer academic service-learning courses.

Other honorees from Minnesota named on the Honor Roll are: Carleton College, Central Lakes College, Century College, Gustavus Adolphus College, Hamline University, Inver Hills Community College, Metropolitan State University, Normandale Community College, St. Catherine University, St. Olaf College, the University of Minnesota-Crookston, and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Augsburg College in Minneapolis was among the 115 schools named to the Honor Roll With Distinction.
