To help meet the growing demand for nurses and the rising trend of home health care, the University of St. Thomas is opening the Susan S. Morrison Learning Center and Simulation Lab in the Schoenecker Center. The 5,500-square-foot lab will provide students with immersive, hands-on learning experiences using patient simulators, virtual-reality technology and realistic clinical environments. Among its unique features is a replica senior living apartment. It complements the first simulation lab at St. Thomas, which is located in Susan S. Morrison Hall.
With enrollment in the Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing doubling since 2020 to more than 500 students this fall, the school needed additional teaching space.
“This lab enables our students to have the opportunity to have a wonderful learning experience,” Morrison Family College of Health Dean Dr. MayKao Y. Hang said.
Members of the Morrison family and the St. Thomas community celebrated the new space at a ribbon-cutting Aug. 26.
