Wellness Center Presents Body Image Awareness Week, Feb. 27-March 1

The Wellness Center will present Body Image Awareness Week from Monday, Feb. 27, through Thursday, March 1. Events will be held on campus throughout the week to recognize issues and provide information concerning body image.

Body Image Awareness Week

Monday, Feb. 27

  • Body Image Awareness table, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., second floor of the Anderson Student Center. Stop by the table for information regarding a healthy body image and pick up a free button. Wear the button throughout the week and you may be approached by a “scout” with a valuable prize.

Tuesday, Feb. 28

  • Presentation on “Good Nutrition from the Couch Potato to the Athlete,” noon-1 p.m. in Room 126, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts. Registered dietitian Christina Meyer-Jax will have information and healthy ideas for everyone – from the couch potato to the NCAA athlete. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
  • “Body Image and Media” discussion, 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Koch Commons Fireside Room. Both male and female students are invited to attend and give their perspectives in a discussion on media and body image. Magazines will be provided so that participants can find examples of how media affects body image and can examine the expectations of others. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.   • “Loving Your Body in a Hostile World: A Discussion,” 7 p.m. in the "Leather Room," Room 108, O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center. This panel discussion will cover body image, the media, and learning to love your body.

Wednesday, Feb. 29

  • “Chef Ken’s Point of View,” 7:45-8:45 p.m., in The View, second floor, Anderson Student Center. Watch a cooking demonstration by Chef Kenneth Grogg that will focus on easy and healthy cooking on the college student’s budget. A limited number of spots are available; register here.

Thursday, March 1

  • “Have More Energy, Feel Great!” noon-1 p.m. in the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium. Kristen Gunderson of Nutritional Weight and Wellness will give a presentation and tips on how to have more energy – something all college students need. Limited spots available; register here.

Body Image Awareness Week is sponsored by Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, the Luann Dummer Center for Women, and the Wellness Center.
