Faculty Development lists workshop opportunities in March
Stephen Brookfield
The Faculty Development Center will offer two March workshop opportunities with Dr. Stephen Brookfield, Distinguished University Professor, School of Education.
To register, e-mail Pat Alexander at least one week prior to the event.
Workshops with Brookfield:
"Making Lectures Interactive," 2:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, March 2, in Room 417, Opus Hall, Minneapolis campus
Many faculty members can experiment with new ways to break lectures up in ways that retain students' interest and keep energy and attention high. In this workshop, Brookfield will draw on his book, The Skillful Teacher (2006), to examine ways to introduce buzz groups, periods of silence, visual conversation, speaking in tongues, scaffolding and other techniques that hold attention.
"Writing and Submitting Articles to Journals," 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in Room 154, Murray-Herrick Campus Center, St. Paul campus
Faculty members new to academic publishing usually have a number of questions about how to write for publication in academic journals. This workshop will consider these questions that participants bring to the session. Brookfield has published more than 75 articles in refereed journals and is on the editorial boards of six journals in the United States, Canada, Britain and Australia.
