Community Entrepreneurship Program Finalist for National Excellence Award

The Community Entrepreneurship Program at the University of St. Thomas is a finalist for a 2025 Excellence Award from USASBE, the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. The awards honor colleges and universities with creative, sustainable and impactful courses and programs in entrepreneurship education. St. Thomas is a finalist for the Model Community Accelerator/Incubator Award category and will present to a panel of judges at the USASBE annual conference in Las Vegas, which takes place from Feb. 12-15.

The 15-day Lunar New Year festival, celebrated by many people of Asian ancestry, will conclude this year on Feb. 12 with the Lantern Festival. St. Thomas colleague Carol Chen, the director of marketing automation technology in the Innovation and Technology Services Department, celebrated this spring festival, in part, by participating in a dance performance in Plymouth. Attend a Black History Month Event

Black History Month
As we observe Black History Month and remember the many contributions that Black individuals have made to our community and our world, we also recognize the need to come together as a St. Thomas community to reflect God's love in our interactions, building bridges of understanding and fostering a culture of compassion for all.

The St. Thomas community is invited to any number of campus events offered during February for Black History Month, from a lunch-and-learn at the Opus College of Business with guest speaker LeBrent Speed to a lesson on the deep roots of African American hymns led by Dr. Yohuru Williams and featuring a special performance by the Shiloh Baptist Choir at the Schoenecker Center, among many other events.

Build Community With Peace Meals

Gather around the table with your fellow Tommies. Peace Meals gathers people from different faith traditions and religious identities who commit to meet together six times to share a meal and honest discussion. The goal is to build greater awareness and understanding of each other's worldviews, questions, concerns, and hopes. The group will meet six times this spring, with the first meal on Feb. 18. Lunch is free, but registration is required (deadline to register is Feb. 13).

Feb. 13: Nominate Colleagues for Recognition Celebration

Did a St. Thomas employee do an amazing job in 2024? Nominations are being accepted until Feb. 13 for the annual Employee Recognition Celebration taking place on Feb. 25. Nominations may be made by any staff or faculty member through the Qualtrics nomination form based on work the nominee performed during the 2024 calendar year. Reason(s) for the nomination and examples of exemplary work should be described.

At the Feb. 25, 3:30 p.m. event in the James B. Woulfe Alumni Hall in Anderson Student Center, St. Thomas will also announce the 2024 recipients of the Think.Act.Work Award, Common Good Award, Living Our Convictions Award, and Embracing Our Differences Award. Current employees who celebrated milestone anniversaries at the university in 2024 will also be recognized. President Rob Vischer will offer remarks and light refreshments will be provided.

This year's Hubbs Children's Literature Conference, hosted by the School of Education, features three award-winning creatives: illustrator Rafael Lopez, young adult novelist John Coy, and author and poet Ty Chapman. The conference is designed for anyone interested in encouraging the use of quality children's literature in homes, schools, and communities. St. Thomas students, staff and faculty are eligible to attend for free, but registration is required. The conference is Saturday, Feb. 22, in the O'Shaughnessy Educational Center (OEC) auditorium.

Submit Creative Name Ideas for Campus Shuttles

The shuttle tracker "Name a Bus" contest is back for 2025! There are currently 10 different shuttles that serve campus, and each can receive a custom name, which is where you come in. Nominations for names are now open. Add your suggestion to this One St. Thomas post by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7.

And remember, you can always use the campus Shuttle Tracker application to see exactly where a bus is and when it is estimated to arrive on campus.
