Men's Basketball Enters Mid-Major Top 25

St. Thomas men's basketball earned another first Monday as it was voted to the Mid-Major Top 25 poll for the first time since joining NCAA Division I. The Tommies were voted No. 25 after winning eight of its last nine games.

The Tommies will play their first game as a member of the Mid-Major Top 25 on Wednesday, Jan. 8 as they host reigning Summit League champion South Dakota State at 8 p.m. Tickets for the game are available HERE.
The game is also being televised on FOX 9+.

Business Plan Competition Offers Chance to Win $10,000

The Schulze School of Entrepreneurship invites current St. Thomas students and recent alumni to enter the St. Thomas Business Plan Competition. Students and recent alumni interested in starting a company or growing their business will compete for the opportunity to win $10,000! Additional prizes totaling $8,000 more are awarded to teams that advance and pitch in the finals. Submissions are due Feb. 6. Information sessions take place on Zoom Jan. 10 from Noon-1 p.m. and Jan. 14 from 5-6 p.m.

Jan. 23: Learn How Good Writing Impacts Clear Thinking

Join The Saint Paul Seminary for its latest Voices in Education lecture, featuring Institute for Excellence in Writing founder, author and director Andrew Pudewa. Inside the seminary's Archbishop Ireland Memorial Library, Pudewa will discuss why good writing is essential for clear thinking and why clear thinking requires humility before the truth. The lecture gets underway on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.

Media Highlights:

Father Christopher Collins '93, SJ, vice president for mission, spoke with the Minnesota Star Tribune for a piece reflecting on the significance of light during the Christmas season. Collins described it as "the light of God coming into the world."

Ali Ling, an assistant professor of civil engineering, appeared on WCCO Radio with Adam and Jordana to discuss the state's new regulations on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as "forever chemicals."

Melissa Lundquist, an associate professor in the School of Social Work and director of the undergraduate social work program, discussed the complexities of grief with MPR News host Angela Davis during a recent broadcast.

School of Law Professor Mark Osler wrote a commentary in remembrance of former President Jimmy Carter that was published in the Minnesota Star Tribune. In his piece, Osler recounted a transformative encounter with the former president.
