St. Thomas Club Sailing Wins Regatta

The St. Thomas sailing team traveled to Columbus, Ohio, this past weekend, taking first in the Buckeye Offshore Regatta hosted by Ohio State. Congrats to the team for its first victory since reintroducing the team back in 2021. The team is now being invited to more prestigious, national regattas taking place this fall on the East Coast.

In a Tommie Experts contribution, Bernie Brady, a professor of theology and an associate director in the Office for Mission, reflects on the day the man born as Jorge Mario Bergoglio became pope, his influence on St. Thomas and the legacy he built.

Each year, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) recognizes a St. Thomas faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to supporting undergraduate research and scholarly collaboration between faculty and students. The winner of the 2025 Undergraduate Research Award is Dr. April Eichmeier, assistant professor of emerging media in the College of Arts and Sciences. "What distinguishes her work is how students are trained to think scientifically and critically, to translate findings for both scholarly and public audiences, and to produce research that has tangible, real-world outcomes," wrote Dr. Peter Gregg, who nominated her for the award.

Students studying this semester at the Bernardi Campus in Rome witnessed the Pope's final blessing on Easter Sunday before his death. They talked to KSTP-TV and WCCO Radio about the experience.

Dr. John Abraham, professor of mechanical engineering, spoke to KARE 11 on Earth Day about climate change.

Dr. David Deeds, entrepreneurship professor at the Opus College of Business, provided insights to the Minnesota Star Tribune on what makes successful business partnerships.
