University of St. Thomas voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 2, to cast votes for state and local candidates. The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
For students who live on the university’s St. Paul campus
St. Thomas resident students vote at two different precinct polling locations, depending on where they live on campus.
The Great Room of McNeely Hall, located on the southwest corner of Cleveland and Summit avenues, serves as a polling place for Ward 4, Precinct 6 -- the area bounded by Summit, Prior, Marshall and Cretin avenues. Any resident students living in Brady, Dowling, Ireland, John Paul II, Morrison, Murray, Selby or St. John Vianney Seminary halls will vote in the McNeely Hall Great Room.
Resident students who live on the south campus or in the neighborhood immediately south of Summit Avenue, meanwhile, are in Ward 4, Precinct 7 – the area bounded by Mississippi River Boulevard and Summit, Prior and St. Clair avenues. They will vote at Groveland Recreation Center, 2021 St. Clair Ave. This includes resident students who live in Grace and Cretin Halls, the Child Development Center, the St. Paul Seminary and in the houses or apartment buildings at 2110 Summit and 2085, 2109, 2151, 2171 and 2175 Grand.
The Groveland Recreation Center is on St. Clair about half a block east of Cleveland. The center is about six blocks from campus.
A list of all St. Thomas students living on campus has been sent to Ramsey County. Resident students will need to show their St. Thomas student ID card in order to register to vote at the McNeely Hall or Groveland Recreation Center polling locations.
For students who do not live in St. Thomas housing
Students who live off campus in Precincts 6 or 7 vote in McNeely Hall or Groveland Recreation Center, depending on their precinct. All students who live off campus can find out where to vote by accessing the Polling Place finder on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Web site. Assistance also is available at the St. Thomas Dean of Students Office, Room 101, Murray-Herrick Campus Center.
Students who do not live on campus will need to present more than their St. Thomas ID in order to register to vote. General information about voting and what kind of ID to bring to the polls can be found at this Minnesota Secretary of State Web site.
Students who do not live on campus will need one of the following to register:
• A current, valid Minnesota driver’s license, learner’s permit or identification card (or receipt for a new one) containing your address in the precinct.
• Student ID with a university registration or fee statement with your current address; student ID with an original bill for water, sewer, gas, electric, phone, solid waste, cell phone or cable television services that includes your name and current address in the precinct and has a due date within 30 days of election day.
• Tribal ID that contains your name, signature and address in the precinct.
• Someone who is registered in the precinct where you live who can confirm your address under signed oath.
• “Notice of Late Registration” postcard that was sent to you from your county auditor or city clerk.
• Prior registration listed on roster at former address in precinct.
Campus parking on election day
To accommodate neighborhood residents who drive to McNeely Hall to vote, St. Thomas will reserve some spots in Lot K, immediately south of McNeely, for voter parking from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday. “Voters Only” parking also will be available on the north side of Grand Avenue between Cleveland Avenue and Finn Street, and on the south side of Summit Avenue between Finn and to Cleveland.
