Fire Chief Cragan, 74, died Friday, Aug. 20, after a long battle with cancer. He was chief of the Rockford, Ill., Fire Department for 10 years and chief of the Orange County, Florida, Fire Department for five years. His adult life was devoted to public service, including four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, before becoming a firefighter.
A Mass will be celebrated in his memory this fall in Rockford, where he will be interred.
