Dr. Shahid Alvi, Sociology Department, is co-author of a paper, "Martial Status Variations in Canadian Public Housing Woman Abuse," with Walter DeKeseredy and Martin Schwartz. The paper was presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Criminology in Denver. At the same meetings, Alvi was elected to the executive board of the Division of Critical Criminology, American Society of Criminology.
Yuko Heberlein, Music Department, has recorded a new CD of music for aspiring young violinists, "Music for the Young Paganini." It contains rarely recorded pieces by Mollenhauer, Elgar, Dancla, Shostakovich, Seitz and Persichetti. The CD is available at the St. Thomas Bookstore for $15.
Dr. John Spry, Economics Department, spoke on "The Determinants of Indiana Lottery Sales" at the 2003 annual conference of the National Tax Association Nov. 13-15. Spry also organized a session, "The Incidence and Economic Activity Effects of Gambling" and served on the program committee.
