Dr. Tatyana Avdeyeva, Graduate School of Professional Psychology, graduate student Kristina Burgetova and Dr. David Welch, dean of the Graduate School of Professional Psychology, are co-authors of an article, "To Help or Not to Help: Factors That Determined Helping Responses to Katrina Victims," published in the journal, Analysis of Social Issues and Public Policy, Vol. 6, pages 159-173.
Dr. Jean Birbilis, Graduate School of Professional Psychology, is the author of an article, "Reflections on What We Need to Know," published in the Psychotherapy Education and Training column of Psychotherapy Bulletin, Vol. 41, No. 4, pages 17-19. Birbilis is chair of the Education and Training Committee of Division 29 of the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Stephen Brookfield, School of Education, is the author of The Skillful Teacher: On Technique, Trust and Responsiveness in the Classroom (Jossey-Bass). This is the book's second edition (it first was published in 1990) and has been rewritten "from scratch," says Brookfield.
Dr. John Conbere and Dr. Sharon Gibson, Organization Learning and Development Department, are co-authors of an article, "Transforming Perspectives on Healthcare: Outcomes of a Management Education Program for Physicians," published in the March issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Business. The article reports on the outcomes of the Mini-MBA program offered by the UST Center for Business Excellence to physicians in a healthcare organization in South Dakota.
Dr. Joseph Fitzharris, History Department, is the author of a new book, Patton's Fighting Bridge Builders, published by Texas A & M University Press. The book is the edited and annotated diary of Company B of the 1303rd Engineer General Service Regiment, a "non-combat" unit attached to Patton's Third Army during his pursuit of the retreating German forces across France in August 1944. Dr. Earl Hall, former director of the St. Thomas Management Center, commanded the first platoon and then the company.
Dr. John Holst, School of Education, is the author of a chapter, "Schooling and Social Class in Post-World War II United States of Aemrica," in the text, The Lost Dream of Equality: Critical Essays on Education and Social Class, edited by Alan Scott and John Freeman-Moir. Dr. Buffy Smith, Sociology and Criminal Justice Department, is co-author with M. Andrew, J. Eggerling-Boeck and G. Sandefur of a chapter, "The 'Inner Side' of the Transition to Adulthood: How Young Adults See the Process of Becoming an Adult," in Constructing Adulthood: Agency and Subjectivity in Adolescence and Adulthood (Elsevier/JAI Press, 2007), edited by Ross Macmillan.
Dr. John Wendt, Opus College of Business, has been reappointed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport by the International Council for Sport. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, the court is an institution independent of any sports organization and provides for services to facilitate the settlement of sports-related disputes through arbitration or mediation. Members of the court are chosen because of their training and recognized competence with regard to sport. A total of 236 members worldwide serve on arbitral panels.
