Dr. Joseph Fitzharris, History Department, College of Arts and Sciences, was presented the Edwin H. Simmons Award for “long, distinguished or particularly outstanding service to the Society for Military History” at the May meeting of the Society for Military History. The Simmons Award is second only to the Samuel Elliot Morison Prize for contributions to the field of military history. The SMH is the premier U.S. and international military history organization.
Dr. Anne Klejment, History Department, College of Arts and Sciences, is the author of “Dorothy Day and Cesar Chavez: American Catholic Lives in Nonviolence,” published in the summer 2011 issue of US Catholic Historian 29 (3): 67-90. The article discusses the shared social and religious characteristics that resulted in their dedication to working for social justice.
Dr. Valentine Pakis, Modern and Classical Languages Department, College of Arts and Sciences, is the author of an article, “Insults, Violence, and the Meaning of Lytegian in the Old English Battle of Maldon,” published in the Journal of Historical Pragmatics 12 (2011), 198-229.
