Sigma Chi Hits Slopes on the run for Bridging

Despite the similarity of a fast, hard-charging running start at the top of the run, it wasn't exactly the Olympic bobsled competition, but Sigma Chi took it to the slopes anyway last Saturday to raise some gold, and lots of silver.

The fraternity teamed up with Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority from Wisconsin-River Falls and raised more than $170 in the Bed Race for Bridging at Buck Hill in Burnsville. Bridging is a nonprofit charity that helps economically disadvantaged families with a one-time gift of quality furniture and household items.

Sigma Chi raced against more than 145 teams from across the Twin Cities. Four teams of four-people-per-mattress raced queen-sized mattresses down the snow tubing lanes at Buck Hill. Teams competed in a bracket tournament for the fastest runs, and the winners received trophies. A team from St. Thomas took third-place honors in the race division. Teams also competed in a costume division.

This 12th annual event, sponsored by Cities 97, Subway and Bridging, raised close to $85,000 for Bridging.
