Tommies Win NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Title

SALEM, Virginia – St. Thomas defeated Benedictine 82-76 Saturday night to win its second NCAA Division III men’s basketball championship in the last six years.

In knocking off Benedictine, the last unbeaten team in all of NCAA basketball, the No. 8 Tommies (30-3) completed an eight-day swing in which they defeated three teams with a combined record of 90-2: No. 1 Augustana, No. 2 Benedictine and No. 4 Christopher Newport.

Seniors Taylor Montero and Ryan Saarela led St. Thomas with career-high games, Montero scoring 27 and Saarela 26. Guard Grant Shaeffer added 14.
