Sports columnist Charley Walters writes, “Brian Nordin, a former St. Thomas Academy and University of St. Thomas plus-1 handicap golfer who plays out of Hastings Country Club, shot 2-under-par 70 Monday at Town & Country Club to win medalist honors at the U.S. Mid-Amateur sectional qualifying tournament. Nordin's score, which included seven birdies, was the only sub-par round, and only five of 66 golfers finished at 73 or lower.
