Vacation, PLT and floating holiday reminders

Paid leave time (PLT), vacation and floating holidays are given to all eligible full- and part-time employees. In order to ensure you do not lose any of this earned paid leave time, please review the information below.

Non-exempt (hourly) staff
You accrue Paid Leave Time each pay period. As of Sept. 30, you may carry over up to 160 hours of PLT time, but any hours in excess of that limit will be forfeited. Your PLT account balance shows on each check stub or can be found on your pay information in Murphy Online.

On Oct. 1, any PLT time over 160 hours will be forfeited and removed from your account balance. Please review your current PLT balance and plan accordingly to make sure you will have 160 hours or less in your PLT account by Sept. 30, 2007.

Exempt (salaried) staff
You receive your vacation allotment at the beginning of each fiscal year and must use that time by the end of each fiscal year. In other words, any balance left in an exempt employee’s account as of June 30 will be forfeited. You will receive your next year’s allotment on July 1.

To avoid posting your time off in the wrong fiscal year, it is important to record your vacation time taken on the HR Web site in a timely manner.

Note: If you will be out toward to the end of June, please record your vacation time before you leave. Please be sure you post your vacation in the appropriate fiscal year.

Floating holidays
FY07 floating holidays must be used by June 30, 2007, or they will be forfeited.

Union members
Refer to your contract for information on vacation, sick and floating holiday(s).

As is the usual practice at UST, vacation, PLT and floating holiday requests must be approved by your supervisor. Make plans early so you can enjoy the time off you have earned. This will help to avoid forfeiting vacation, PLT or floating holiday time.
