A representative from St. George’s University in the Caribbean will hold a free information session Feb. 16, at the St. Paul Hotel.
Bob Ryan, associate dean for enrollment planning at St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, invites interested St. Thomas students to a free information session about the university’s School of Medicine and School of Veterinary Medicine from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at the St. Paul Hotel, 350 Market St., St. Paul.
St. George’s is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. What started as a small medical school seeking students from the United States now offers degrees in medicine, veterinary medicine, graduate and undergraduate programs and enrolls some 6,000 students from all over the world. The School of Medicine has graduates in all 50 states and more than 40 countries. Its American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education-accredited School of Veterinary Medicine has affiliations with AVMA-approved programs in five countries and its 20 U.S. veterinary programs, including the University of Minnesota.
St. Thomas alumnus Godino Kalungi ’11 began his M.D. studies at St. George’s last month, and St. Thomas officials are exploring opportunities for joint programs with St. George’s. More than 65 percent of St. George’s four-year M.D. program are U.S. citizens, as are 85 percent of students in its Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.
