Dr. Sanjeev Bordoloi, Operations and Supply Chain Management Department, Opus College of Business, co-presented a paper, titled "Kaizen in the Clinic, a Case Study on Lean Application in Healthcare," with Dr. David Fischer of TRIA Orthopaedic Center, at the annual conference of the Production and Operations Management Society, held April 29 through May 2 in Reno, Nev.
Elizabeth Dussol, Academic Counseling, wrote a review of Experiential Education: Making the Most of Learning Outside the Classroom (Jossey Bass, 2010), edited by Donna M. Qualters. The review is published in the most recent issue of the National Academic Advising Association Journal (Vol. 31, No. 2).
J.C. Hallman, English Department, College of Arts and Sciences, has been chosen as the runner-up in Creative Nonfiction's "The Night," a themed writing contest judged by author Susan Orlean. Hallman will receive $2,500 and publication on the journal's website for his essay "Spate and Spite."
Nekima Levy-Pounds, School of Law, received the 2011 Shanara Gilbert Emerging Clinician Award for her work with the Community Justice Project under the auspices of the Interprofessional Center for Counseling and Legal Services. Senior Renee Huset presented a poster, titled “Land Cover Change in Rochester, MN: 1979-2010.” Senior Justin Riley presented a poster, titled “Residential Property Analysis in the UST Community.” Junior Alex Boie presented a poster, titled “Hydrogen Fueling Stations in Minnesota.” Juniors Liana Bratton and Steven Schmitz presented a poster, titled “Buffalo Commons.” Juniors Nicholas Yannarelly, Julie Rech and Annie L’Heureux presented a talk, titled “Discovering the Buffalo Commons: Using GIS to Target Optimal Lands in the Great Plains for Large Scale Restoration.” Junior Joseph Mueller presented a talk, titled “Change in Land Use of the City of Roseville, MN.”
Dr. Mary Rose O'Reilley, professor emerita of English, is the author of Earth, Mercy, her second book of poetry, which will be published by Louisiana State University Press in spring 2013.
Dr. Scott Wright, History Department, College of Arts and Sciences, has essays on “Farmer-Labor Party of Minnesota,” “Japanese military aggression” and “U.S.A. Trilogy” published in The Thirties in America (Salem Press, 2011).
Students in Justice and Peace Studies’ Conflict Resolution course participated in the global, online dialogue “Turning the Tables: Transforming Conflicts Related to Resource Extraction." The dialogue was viewed over 1,100 times by visitors from 97 countries and territories between April 26 and May 4. There were 135 comments added to the dialogue on tactics for human rights and conflict transformation. The dialogue will remain online for anyone to read, and a summary of the dialogue will be posted on the website. The next dialogue hosted by the New Tactics in Human Rights Project at the Center for Victims of Torture is “Front Line Watchdogs: Monitoring Accountability for Human Rights," to be held May 18-24.
